Summary of Carly
After the deaths of DS Georgia Trotman and the protected witness, DC Steve Arnott gets a grilling as to the police presence at the hospital.
He discovers that a man named Joe threatened and forced the nurse, who was on the witness’s ward, into giving the killer access to the ward. The nurse, Claire Tindall, is now unable to identify the man “Joe”.
On the other hand Lindsay Denton has a dispute with her alcoholic neighbour and she attacks her with a wine bottle. But Lindsay Denton denies the attack when her neighbour reports it as she had already disposed off the evidence.
However, Denton continues her search in missing persons with the case of Carly Kirk, a vanished teenager. Kate Fleming continues her job as an undercover and assists Lindsay Denton in her work. Fleming takes a move to try and get Denton to admit her guilt but soon her cover is blown as Denton sees through the ruse. In turn, Denton assaults Fleming and steals her cell phone.
As Fleming’s cover is now blown, Denton is investigated by AC-12 about the call she made to the hospital in which the protect witness was hospitalized. Upon questioning, Denton claims that she just called to ask that the witness exonerate her but she is not believed and is arrested for conspiracy by Ted Hastings. At this time, Denton turns the tables as she points out on the record that Steve Arnott paid a romantic visit to Claire.
She also reveals and provides evidence that Ted Hastings has financial problems and a broken marriage that could make him as blamable as her. About Fleming; Denton claims that Fleming’s cell phone has an interesting call history related to her affair with Richard Akers. Nonetheless, the interview is terminated and she is arrested anyway.

Review of Carly
Season two of Line of Duty is proving every bit as compelling viewing as its predecessor. In this episode we were shown that you can twist facts to make a case against anyone and even the smallest of actions can have unintended effects. In second episode, I was surprised to see less being made of the possible alcohol in Georgia's system as episode one made quite a lot of how much she drank so I'll be surprised if it doesn't come back into play at some point in the season.
It's about time, but DI Lindsay Denton might just be my new favourite hero. She might be shown cunning, manipulative and possibly sociopathic, but I still found it hard to subdue a cheer when she turned the tables so smartly on AC-12. Combined with modern crime mystery’s taste for uniformed villains, audiences (including me) are willing to suspect anyone.
MAIN HIGHLIGHTS
For me, this episode was all about Lindsay Denton. While wondering whether she was going to turn the gas up or off, made me realize how little we know her. At one point she is shown as a violent psychopath, and at another, she is a cornered, innocent being fighting for her career. So what do you think about her? I wonder which the real DI Lindsay Denton is. Is she a misunderstood victim or a hardened criminal?
Another scene which includes Carly's foster parents was nicely done, too. I liked the way this drama demonstrates the many ways in which the police are prevented from doing their job. Whatever else Denton is, she desperately wanted to help find Carly and yet she can't convince anyone to listen to her.
Episode two of season 2 is crowned by that magnificent scene in which Denton turned the tables and flipped from the accused to the accuser as she called out Ted Hastings on his dodgy finances and Steve on his unofficial romantic relationship, while subtly threatening Kate with the exposure of her affair on the record. This scene is a combination of skilled performance, writing and direction. This makes it the most gripping scene of the hour for me.
We know very little about Detective Chief Constable Dryden but this episode gave us more from DCC Dryden, a character being targeted by the press for speeding fraud. Given the circumstances, I am prepared to believe he’s as rotten as a ripe meddler.
We still really don't know much more about the mysterious “Joe”, the man who forced to access the victim’s ward. We are also not shown what was really going on the night Denton was called, although the shocking reaction at the witness protection reveal suggests that the case is about to take a very different turn in a short while.
Neither the good guys nor the bad guys came out of this episode well but it's becoming increasingly difficult to tell which is which.
