Summary of The Probation
Arnott gets rescued from the blackmailers by Gates. But Gates leaves before Kate, arrives to find evidence that a body had been stored at the warehouse. Arnott is now convinced that Gates is innocent of the murders. He believes that Gates can lead him to the killers. Arnott lies to Fleming and tells her that Gates did not play any part in his kidnapping.
As Fleming, was leaving T0-20 Morton shows his opinion on her by spiting on the back of her head. After she finds out she was undercover. Now Cottan investigates the triple murder case as the Deputy Senior Officer. On the other hand, Arnott's former counter-terrorism Chief Inspector is brought in to oversee the operation into apprehending the suspects.
Fleming questions Ryan Pilkington, the young teenager who acts as a courier for the organized crime group. Ryan denies any knowledge of 'Tommy' or the murder of Jackie Laverty. However, he reveals to Fleming that it was Gates who rescued Arnott. Fleming is upset that her colleague lied to her and informs Hastings.
Meanwhile, Arnott sets up a midnight meeting with Gates using Morton. Gates tries to convince Arnott that he was forced to turn rogue and did not have any choice in the matter.
As they think Gates is in danger searching for ‘Tommy’, Arnott asks Hastings to record Gates meeting with ‘Tommy’, this will set them up, so they bring the killers to justice. Hastings agrees to put a tap on the phone network used by 'Tommy' until one of his many phone numbers is re-activated.
The phone number re-activates leading to edge park golf club where Gates will later find him. With Fleming and Arnott behind.
Gates arrests Tommy Hunter and they drive away. Under interrogation, Hunter reveals that his boys were responsible for the murder of Jackie Laverty and the three drug dealers.
Hunter claims that the murders were committed by 'an inside man, someone special to him' who 'always follows orders' and who would admit to them if he forced him to. Arnott and Kate intend to meet up with them but before they can do so Gates, realizing his career is over, abducts Tommy to force a confession before committing an extreme act in the line of duty.

Review of The Probation
In my point of view, Jed Mercurio has created one of the finest and most compelling police dramas of recent years. But it’s due to a uniformly strong cast, whose strengths have shown as the series has continued, that his gut-punch plotting and ‘spit & shit’ view of policing have succeeded.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a story of corruption both small scale and large and of the seemingly insignificant decisions which combine to force a good man on to a bad path. But it's also the case that this was a drama that would have benefitted from more episodes.
HIGHLIGHTS
It’s been easy to forget, as we’ve been dragged down through dramatic morass of finger-chopping and murders, that Tony Gates has been a victim as much as he has been a perpetrator – forced into aggressively desperate situations by men far worse than he was. As for Gates, his death was increasingly inevitable as the episode progressed, and it was more than a little sad for me to realize that his world collapsed because AC-12 was put in his life to create a disastrous plot especially as Jackie was also involved.
Even his death challenged our view of him; throwing himself under the truck just to see that his family would be taken care of, but also because he was mortally afraid of being a cop in prison (as had been hinted at several times across the series). Hero or coward?
This death is telling the story of his life is full of regret because it balances out the tragedy of his life, as it suggests that, we can have sympathy for his family and friends further. Justice could not occur without help from Arnott and Kate and the rest of AC-12. The resilience from Arnott was tremendous, as he faced a lot of controversy for his suspicions that later turned out right.
Really our discreet Dot, forced evil into himself and others, as he was behind many people’s deaths and arrests. As Gates and others followed on the evil, like many fooled men. After Hunter is arrested, Dot asks for a few moments with him. Hunter says, "You tell me how I'm going to play this one", to which Dot replies, "Offer them all the information you can and plead immunity". Tommy Hunter was then placed under witness protection, setting the series up for its next chapter...
Line of duty was ended with this final episode to really fit its great theme of excellent superb drama. It has an excellent cast, skillful writing and a knack for making an exotic, unfamiliar world seem like the viewer's second home.
